Shocking Inequality Among Carbs

Not all carbohydrates (carbs) are created equal. When it comes to carbs there are the good, the bad, and the ugly, and their differences are critical to your health. Because carbohydrates are digested to form blood sugar, many people think that a carbohydrate is a carbohydrate is a carbohydrate. This false assumption is based on the idea that most breads, rice, pastas, and cereals seem pretty much alike. But from a nutritional perspective not all carbs are created equal. Food scientists generally separate carbohydrates (carbs) into two distinct groupings: sugars or simple carbs, and starches or complex carbs. Our expanded view of this will include dietary fiber or non-digestible carbs, and those that offer little or no nutritional value or empty-calorie carbs.
